Door County Medical Center is proud to announce it has been awarded a 5-star rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in its latest Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings—the highest possible distinction for hospital performance in the United States. In addition, DCMC has also earned a 5-star rating in patient experience, based on results from the CMS Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.
This elite dual recognition places Door County Medical Center among the top-performing hospitals nationwide and makes it the only hospital in Northeast Wisconsin to receive both a 5-star overall quality rating and a 5-star patient experience rating. These honors reflect excellence across key quality measures including mortality, safety of care, readmission rates, patient experience, and timely and effective treatment.
"These dual 5-star ratings are a testament to the dedication, compassion, and expertise of our entire team," said Brian Stephens, DCMC CEO. "We are deeply committed to delivering the highest standard of care to our community, and this recognition from CMS affirms that commitment."
The CMS star ratings are designed to help patients and families make informed decisions about their healthcare by providing transparent, accessible information about hospital quality. Only a small percentage of hospitals nationwide achieve a 5-star rating in either category—making this dual achievement a significant milestone for Door County Medical Center.
CMS evaluates more than 4,000 hospitals annually using a rigorous methodology that incorporates over 100 quality measures. The ratings are publicly available on the Medicare Care Compare website.
"We are honored to be recognized for our continuous efforts to improve patient outcomes and experiences," added Jenna Jennerjohn, Quality Director. "This achievement reflects our culture of quality, safety, and innovation."
