Door County Medical Center Announces New Partnership for Emergency and Urgent Care
Door County Medical Center (DCMC) is thrilled to announce a new partnership to provide top-level care to our Emergency Services.
Beginning August 1 at 12:00 a.m., Emergency Medicine Specialists, S.C. (EMS) will assume physician and advanced practice clinician (APC) coverage for the Emergency Department, Urgent Care and DirectCare at DCMC.
Patients will see many familiar faces continue to provide care, and the opportunity to welcome several new clinicians to our DCMC team. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to EMS as they begin serving our patients and community. There will be no interruption in services or patient care. We look forward to partnering with EMS as we continue providing exceptional care to our community.
Why EMS?
Emergency Medicine Specialists (EMS) is a physician-owned independent democratic group dedicated to the mission of providing “spiritually centered, holistic care which sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities.”
EMS, established in 1983 and based in Wauwatosa, Wis., works with 21 different hospitals and urgent care centers in Wisconsin.
EMS has a special focus on supporting their clinicians’ wellbeing so that they can provide the best possible care. They foster such a positive workplace culture that they maintain an impressive 90% clinician retention rate.
Through internal team building events and opportunities, continuing education, an Advanced Practice Clinician mentorship program and community outreach initiatives, the clinicians of EMS are well-supported with career development and wellness resources.
Interestingly, in addition to their physician support, EMS maintains a Research and Academics Committee that works to advance emergency medicine through collaboration, innovation and research.

Door County Medical Center consistently ranks in the top tier of rural healthcare providers in the country according to organizations like Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC). However, there is always room for improvement.
The clinicians of EMS are experts in managing the emergent and urgent healthcare needs of patients. When their team takes on a new partnership, they see dramatic improvements in the metrics that matter. For example:
- Reductions in the number of people who leave without being seen.
- Reductions in the time from arrival to the Emergency Department to being seen by a provider.
- Reduction in the length of time a patient spends in the Emergency Department.
