DAISY Award

Congratulations, Lin Yu, RN! Katie is our latest DAISY Award Winner! Read her nomination below:

Lin daisy award winner

I would like to nominate an outstanding nurse Lin, for her exceptional care during my several days in the hospital. Her dedication, compassion and professionalism when above and beyond what is expected, making a significant difference in the recovery and comfort of myself and family. She constantly expressed empathy and attentiveness, ensuring and building our trust and peace, as she was giving us her highest quality of care.

She demonstrated unexpected kindness and understanding throughout my stay. She went the extra mile each day to help guide me through my anxiety and fears through this frightening, unexpected experience. I am 83 years old and not used to being in hospitals. Lin emotionally supported us through my days in the hospital in so many ways as she explained all the procedures and answered questions.

With her unique observation, she noted I was taking a downturn and notified the doctors and proceeded to monitor until the decision was made to do surgery. She then had become like family to my husband and myself since we were from out of town. She was there comforting us, talking, soothing and calming and held my hand all the way into surgery and helped my husband as well. WE were in shock and extremely agitated. Lin was a true blessing to us during these stressful days. She was an employee who emphasizes what every patient would envision and wish for in an emergency hospital stay.

I as a patient was truly blessed to have her as my nurse at Door County Medical Center, and for Door County Medical Center to have her as an employee. She definitely deserves the DAISY award, or most valuable employee award.

BEE Award

Jen Debroux is our latest BEE Award recipient! Way to go, Jen! Read her nomination below:

Jen bee award

I would like to nominate Jen from the Behavioral Health Department in recognition of the exceptional compassion, professionalism, and patient-centered care she demonstrates in her role.

I recently contacted her to schedule during a time when I was experiencing emotional distress and was hoping to arrange an appointment with a provider. From the moment Jen answered the phone, she demonstrated an extraordinary level of empathy, patience, and understanding. She not only addressed the logistical need for scheduling, but she also took the time to truly listen and communicate with a level of compassion and clarity that is rare to encounter.

What stood out most was her ability to connect with me as a person. Jen spoke with gentleness, respect, and genuine care, helping me feel supported during a very difficult moment. Her communication went far beyond what one might typically expect from an administrative interaction. She recognized my immediate needs and responded in a way that was thoughtful, reassuring, and deeply human. Jen represents the very best of what patient support should look like. Her kindness and deep sense of empathy made a meaningful difference for me when I needed it most. Interactions like this remind patients that they are not alone and that there are people within the healthcare system who truly care.

It is clear that Jen brings not only professionalism to her work, but also heart. I hope she knows how valued she is by the patients who have the privilege of interacting with her. Her dedication and compassion make a lasting impact and make her incredibly deserving of recognition. You saved a life the day you answered that telephone call. You are appreciated more than you know!
