Where Generations of Women Meet a Lifetime of Care

You may not realize it, but you see Door County Medical Center (DCMC) every day. Beyond the signs, buildings, and messages, you see DCMC in the mothers, grandmothers, and daughters who have trusted their care to us for more than 80 years.

If it's been awhile since you last visited us, we’d like an opportunity to re-introduce ourselves and the exceptional care waiting for you at the Women’s Center at Door County Medical Center.

Spa-like environment

Established in 2007, The Women’s Center at DCMC is designed to create a sense of comfort and calm right down to comfortable seating, complimentary teas and luxurious powder rooms.

This is intentional, of course. At Door County Medical Center, we understand that a women’s care appointment can bring a mix of emotions—anticipation, vulnerability, even anxiety. We also recognize that the design of a space can either heighten those feelings or help ease them.

In The Women’s Center, as well as our Birthing Center, every detail is thoughtfully considered because each detail matters. From artwork and throw pillows to private birthing suites, all elements are designed to create a sense of calm and comfort. Our goal is for every patient to feel deeply cared for—physically and emotionally—and that commitment extends far beyond what you see.

Care for every stage of life

From a woman’s first gynecologic visit through post-menopause, the experts at the DCMC Women’s Center are equipped with the latest knowledge and resources to help our patients navigate the unique complexities of being a woman.

  • Reproductive Care: Routine and preventive health services maintain wellness and detect issues early. The DCMC Women’s Center provides annual well-woman exams, Pap tests to screen for cervical cancer, clinical breast exams, and counseling on overall reproductive health. We provide expert diagnosis and management of a wide range of conditions affecting the female reproductive system. This includes treating menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, endometriosis and ovarian cysts and guidance on family planning and contraception.
  • Maternity Care: DCMC is where growing families meet comprehensive maternity care to ensure the health of both mother and baby. This includes prenatal care to monitor fetal development, management of labor and delivery (both vaginal and Cesarean), and postpartum care to support a healthy recovery. Plus, Prepared Childbirth and Breastfeeding classes help new families feel confident. The Birthing Center at DCMC boasts tranquil private suites, individualized care and access to TeleNICU to avoid separation whenever possible.
  • Menopausal Care: With new research constantly advancing you can trust the team at the DCMC Women’s Center to provide you with the latest information and resources to help you navigate the last big shift in a woman’s life.

Hi-Tech AND Hi-Touch

At Door County Medical Center, technology extends our care, but it never replaces our hands-on approach. Technological advances mean that we get to take better care of our patients, right here at home.

  • TeleNICU: Our newborns are never far away from highly specialized care. Door County Medical Center offers a state-of-the-art program called TeleNeonatology in our Women and Infants Center, bringing specialty care to our patients when and where it is needed most. This specialized program utilizes cutting-edge technology to connect Door County Medical Center clinical staff with board-certified neonatologists at HSHS St. Vincent Children's Hospital in order to coordinate specialized care for newborns that need critical medical attention without having to travel or be separated.
  • 3-D Mammography: 3D Mammography results in fewer cancers missed and less invasive treatments. 3D Mammography is a type of digital mammography that, instead of taking a flat 2D image of breast tissue, creates a 3D image from a composite formed of image layers, allowing doctors to examine breast tissue layer by layer.

A patient shares, “Excellent care and compassion during my mammogram which is not a fun time, but definitely made more pleasant by the person doing the testing.”
  • Robotic Surgery: Drs. Elizabeth Gaida and Kali Olson use the da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System to perform a variety of gynecological procedures with more flexibility, precision and control. Compared to traditional open procedures that require large incisions, robotic surgery uses a few small incisions. Procedures include hysterectomy, ovarian cyst removal and treatment of endometriosis.

While the OB/GYNs are absolutely amazing, the nurses, aids and assistants in the DCMC Women’s Center are the stars of the show. They attend to every need and every request often before it’s even requested. They hold your hand through contractions, and bring levity to mammograms. They coordinate care across departments so that your experience is stress-free.

“We recently gave birth at DCMC and I just wanted to say that our level of care was outstanding! I don’t think I’ve ever received such high quality care before. Throughout the entire pregnancy, Dr. Gaida, the Women’s Center staff, and all the L&D staff were AMAZING! We felt incredibly well cared for before, during and after giving birth. If you’re concerned at all about doctoring or giving birth with DCMC, don’t be. We had an amazing experience and would recommend going there to every pregnant person I know. Everyone there was incredibly caring, attentive, supportive and approachable,” raves a patient.
